MARK YOUR CALENDARS! NATIONAL PIEROGY DAY IS OCTOBER 8TH

Celebrate the Ninth Annual Food Holiday and Mrs. T’s® Pierogies’ 65th Anniversary

Shenandoah, Pa., October 5, 2017 – Fall is finally here, which means it’s almost time for National Pierogy Day! For the last nine years, Americans have joined together with friends on October 8th to enjoy Mrs. T’s Pierogies and celebrate the Eastern European delicacy, featuring whipped potatoes in a pasta shell. This October 8th is a milestone for Mrs. T’s Pierogies, the largest producer of frozen pierogies in the country, because the company is celebrating its 65th anniversary.

It all started in 1952 when Ted Twardzik Sr. dreamt of starting a food company inspired by his mother’s pierogy recipe. He remembered how popular the Polish dumplings were at church festivals and thought people would likely buy them. On October 8, 1952, Ted sold the very first pierogy samples to his local grocery store in Shenandoah, PA, and to honor his mother Mary Twardzik – the Mrs. T – he called his company Mrs. T’s Pierogies.

“Every National Pierogy Day is memorable for Mrs. T’s Pierogies, but this year holds a special place in our hearts,” said Tom Twardzik, President, Mrs. T’s Pierogies. “In addition to commemorating our 65th anniversary, we are also paying tribute to our founder and my father, Ted Twardzik Sr. who passed away last year. The impact he had on our community and the food industry is undeniable, and every October 8th we’ll be reminded of the happiness his pierogies continue to bring people across the country.”

To commemorate the life of the man who put Mrs. T’s Pierogies on the map, Shenandoah Mayor Andrew Szczyglak, Pennsylvania House Representative Neal Goodman and Pennsylvania State Senator David Argall declared September 7, the day Ted was born in 1927, “Ted Twardzik Sr. Day.” In celebration, the local Shenandoah community enjoyed a documentary about his life and, of course, Mrs. T’s Pierogies.

National Pierogy Day and Ted Twardzik Sr. Day aren’t the only days Mrs. T’s Pierogies can be enjoyed.
